About me
I count myself as very lucky to have been doing a job I absolutely love for the past 30 years. Having worked overseas and in the UK, I am skilled in working collaboratively with global suppliers from every conceivable FMCG base. I specialise in packaging design, seasonal toolkits and art direction. I enjoy being part of a team and put great emphasis on building relationships with my suppliers from illustrators to calligraphers to avocado buyers!
I live with my husband and daughter in Hampshire. My husband is from Singapore and we go back as often as we can to visit family and friends and to enjoy the food! I have a passion for early 20th C English art, literature and film; the work of Eric Ravilious and the commercial artist Abram Games; the writings of Dorothy Whipple published by Persephone Books and Michael Balcon and the unforgettable Ealing comedies. I have always loved pattern and illustration and have fond memories of a great aunt who used to hand paint for Wedgewood. But I am also a fan of simple, classic understated design and recently visited the Bauhaus museum in Berlin.
Bio
I began my graphic design career in London, before moving to Singapore to explore new opportunities in 1992. Living there for 7 years, I worked for both an international and a local design agency, specialising in brand and packaging design and working with clients all around SE Asia. Returning to the UK I joined Waitrose in 1998 as part of the in-house design team. After nearly 20 years at Waitrose, designing industry leading packaging, it is now time to move on and explore new career opportunities.
Experience
I have a wealth of industry experience. I am skilled in the concept and strategy of packaging design but am also a highly proficient project manager. Working collaboratively with brand managers, suppliers and reprographics I bring products from concept to store as efficiently and economically as possible. I do this by managing project budgets, spending business funds effectively and efficiently, art directing and managing external creative suppliers and delivering projects to brief and on deadline.
